As the largest and most trusted reproductive health care provider in Wisconsin, we serve over 60,000 patients annually across 22 health centers statewide. The Legal Assistant position is a full-time role based at our Jackson Street Administration Office in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where the successful candidate will work 40 hours per week. This role is crucial in creating a climate where reproductive and sexual health is protected and promoted. The Legal Assistant will support the Department of Legal Advocacy, Services, and Compliance by assisting with compliance-related tasks. This includes drafting business agreements, contracts, briefs, memos, and grants to foster strong community-focused partnerships. The position will involve project-based assignments related to PPWI operations, including contract and lease reviews, health care compliance, and other services and initiatives aimed at serving staff, patients, and communities. Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint, is required, along with the ability to handle confidential material and a keen attention to detail. Responsibilities

  • Assist the Director of Legal Advocacy, Services and Compliance to implement legal projects.
  • Assist in developing the Department of Legal Advocacy, Services and Compliance's document storage system.
  • Prepare, format, proofread, revise, profile, and save correspondence, contracts, and other legal documents in a centralized place.
  • Assist Director of Legal Advocacy and Services with meeting coordination with Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) litigation and law team and/or outside legal counsel.
  • Assist PPFA litigation and law attorneys and/or outside counsel in the preparation of motions, briefs, discovery requests, witness preparation and other trial or appellate related documents.
  • Assist Director of Legal Advocacy and Services in development of departmental processes in receiving and prioritizing internal legal review requests and manage the internal flow of legal requests.
  • Perform additional related duties as requested.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.
  • Two years of experience in an office setting.
  • Legal assistant experience preferred.
  • Experience in health care administration, contracts, or non-profit compliance a plus.
  • Proven writing, organizing and electronic communication skills.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with Planned Parenthood employees, outside consultants, and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to operate independently and in collaboration with others.
  • Ability to relate to diverse communities and support the intersectional and cross-movement work of Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin and its community partners.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint skills.
  • Proven ability to work with confidential material.
  • Possess initiative and follow-through with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, changing, dynamic legal environment.
