About the position

The Legal Assistant position is a remote role focused on providing comprehensive litigation support to attorneys representing The Hartford insureds throughout New York State. The ideal candidate will thrive in a high-volume, electronic office environment and will be responsible for managing legal documents, maintaining calendars, and assisting attorneys in trial preparations. This role emphasizes collaboration and efficiency in a dynamic legal support team.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, e-file, and serve legal documents required by the New York courts using NYSCEF.
  • Maintain the office calendar based on court notifications and assist in scheduling depositions.
  • Assist attorneys in preparation for trials, mediations, and arbitrations.
  • Review electronic mail daily and maintain electronic legal files.
  • Process invoices for payment and act professionally in all interactions with clients and court employees.
  • Support overall office operations, including case matching, mail handling, and electronic filing.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Legal Assistant in a paperless insurance defense law office or corporate law department.
  • Strong working knowledge of the New York court systems and processes.
  • Experience in tort and personal injury work is strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with trial preparation is a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience in a high-volume litigation environment with document production and discovery preparation.
  • Proficiency with case management software and MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, OneNote, Teams, PowerPoint).
  • Strong organizational, multi-tasking, and time management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Trial preparation experience is a plus.
