About the position

The legal assistant is responsible for working directly with the attorneys, paralegals, and other legal assistants to file and prosecute patent applications in the United States Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO). The ideal candidate for this job has a skill set that includes the ability to multi-task, prioritize many projects with multiple people, self-motivate, and adhere to fast-paced deadlines. Employees may work remotely from home on a hybrid basis. Currently, we ask our firm's Portland-area employees to work in the office a minimum of once per week on mandatory Wednesdays. Some additional in-office days may be required for this position. Our office is located in downtown Portland with easy access to public transportation. This is a full-time position with a regular schedule of 37.5 - 40 hours per week. Comprehensive on-the-job training will be provided.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare letters, correspondence, forms, and other materials for submission to the USPTO while utilizing electronic systems
  • Enter, download, and review data using various computer software programs
  • Respond to questions and requests for information from the USPTO and clients
  • Mail out physical letters and documents from the firm's office building
  • Manage workflow, ensuring that deadlines are met and work is completed correctly
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software programs and demonstrated ability to efficiently learn and use various computer programs
  • Ability to complete detail-oriented tasks with a high degree of accuracy
  • Superior organization skills and dedication to completing projects in a timely manner
  • Positive attitude and ability to communicate professionally with supervisors and colleagues
  • A college degree and/or relevant professional experience is preferred, but not required
