LHH is seeking an experienced legal assistant for a new job opportunity in New Orleans, LA. This position requires a highly organized and detail-oriented professional who will play a crucial role in supporting legal operations. The legal assistant will be responsible for drafting, formatting, and proofreading legal documents and correspondence, ensuring that all materials are accurate and professionally presented. Additionally, the role involves filing and e-filing for state and federal courts, which requires a thorough understanding of the legal filing processes and deadlines. The legal assistant will also be tasked with assembling documents, outlines, and exhibits for various legal proceedings, including court filings, arbitrations, mediations, depositions, and hearings. This includes drafting basic discovery responses and managing calendars to ensure all deadlines are met. Research and fact-finding will also be part of the responsibilities, requiring the assistant to gather relevant information to support legal cases. The ideal candidate will possess a positive attitude, be a pleasure to work with, and demonstrate a willingness to tackle any task, no matter how small. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential for this role, as the legal assistant will interact with clients, attorneys, and court personnel regularly.

Responsibilities

  • Drafting, formatting, and proofreading legal documents and correspondence.
  • Filing and e-filing for state and federal courts.
  • Assembling documents, outlines, and exhibits for court filings, arbitrations, mediations, depositions, and hearings.
  • Drafting basic discovery responses.
  • Calendaring and deadline management.
  • Conducting research and fact-finding.
  • Performing other tasks as assigned.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of solid legal assistant experience.
  • Experience with asbestos is a must.
  • Strong computer proficiency, especially with MS Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • A thorough understanding of litigation procedures and the discovery process.
  • Solid organizational and time management skills with high attention to detail.
  • Superb communication and interpersonal skills with a helpful, proactive mindset.
