The Legal Compliance Assistant (Paralegal) position at the Virginia Department of Corrections is integral to the Health Services Unit (HSU), which is dedicated to providing quality healthcare to individuals in custody while ensuring compliance with various legal and regulatory standards. The primary mission of the HSU is to promote the wellbeing of these individuals through effective healthcare management and resource allocation. This role involves supporting the Department in various legal tasks, ensuring that all activities align with state policies, ACA standards, and health regulatory requirements, including Medicaid and Medicare standards. As a Legal Compliance Assistant, you will be responsible for assisting in the management and development of HSU policies and procedures, ensuring they comply with appropriate statutes and regulations. This position requires a comprehensive understanding of legal processes, strong organizational skills, and the ability to maintain confidentiality while exercising good judgment. You will be expected to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines, all while maintaining a high level of professionalism. The role also involves effective communication with public officials and executives from both public and private agencies, necessitating superior interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. Familiarity with legal terminology, court procedures, and document management systems is essential, as is a working knowledge of HIPAA and other confidentiality regulations. The ideal candidate will have experience in correctional legal work and a background in a healthcare organization setting, which will enhance their ability to navigate the complexities of this position.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support in legal work for the Department of Corrections.
