About the position

Expedia is seeking a dynamic attorney with at least 3 years of experience to support Expedia's fast-growing global Media Solutions business as well as Expedia's Partner Marketing group. This position is based in either Seattle or Chicago and reports to the Senior Director of Legal. The attorney will have primary responsibility for handling a broad range of global commercial transactions. This role will also include providing legal advice to business clients regarding marketing, contract interpretation, new initiatives, and other commercial and regulatory matters. In this role, you will review and draft a wide range of global commercial agreements, including advertising and media partnerships, marketing agreements, memorandums of understanding, and other business contracts. You will advise business clients on various issues, including contract interpretation, product implementation, internal standards and practices, risk management, changes in law, and regulatory risks. Ensuring legal compliance of partner marketing and other external communications will also be a key responsibility. Additionally, you will update legal guidelines and provide proactive legal training to business teams, project manage new business and legal initiatives, and collaborate with colleagues in Expedia's broader legal team as well as internal functional groups such as tax, finance, privacy, and treasury.

Responsibilities

  • Review and draft a wide range of global commercial agreements including advertising and media partnerships, marketing agreements, memorandums of understanding, and other business contracts.
  • Advise business clients on a range of issues including contract interpretation, product implementation, internal standards and practices, risk management, changes in law and regulatory risks.

  • Project manage new business and legal initiatives.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in Expedia's broader legal team as well as internal functional groups such as tax, finance, privacy, and treasury.

Requirements

  • Possess a J.D. degree with membership in good standing in at least one state bar (Washington or Illinois preferred).
  • Have at least 3 years of experience as an attorney at a top regional or national law firm, or in a dynamic, in-house legal environment.
  • Demonstrate significant experience drafting and negotiating complex commercial transactions, particularly in contracts relating to advertising, media, marketing, and intellectual property.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, oral and written communication skills, along with a strong work ethic.
  • Proven track record of establishing strong working relationships with internal and external business clients and within the legal department or law firm.
  • International and in-house experience are a plus.
