About the position

The Legal Counsel position at Vontier is a key role within the North American legal team, primarily supporting Matco Tools. This position involves providing comprehensive legal support across various domains including commercial, corporate, litigation, labor and employment, and compliance. The role is designed for experienced attorneys, but also welcomes those without prior in-house experience, offering opportunities for professional growth and direct engagement with business operations.

Responsibilities

• Support and advise Matco Tools in commercial, corporate, litigation, regulatory, labor & employment, compliance, and legal risk management.
• Advise on all aspects of commercial relationships, including review, drafting, and negotiation of contracts.
• Advise management and HR on employment law matters, coordinating with Vontier's VP & AGC Labor & Employment.
• Support management in navigating regulatory environments relevant to Matco's business activities.
• Assist in the execution of compliance and risk management programs for Matco.
• Oversee and advise on litigation, claims, and significant legal matters; develop litigation strategy.
• Provide training and updates to business partners on various legal topics.
• Manage outside counsel and control legal spend.
• Assist the VP Group General Counsel on other legal matters and projects.

Requirements

• 5+ years of legal experience.
• Preferred experience in AmLaw200 law firm or in-house legal department.
• Willingness to learn about the business.
• Curiosity about the company's role in a changing strategic landscape.
• Desire to grow skills and advance career.
• Ability to integrate into existing business teams and provide legal guidance.

• Aptitude for legal technology.
