About the position

The Legal Fellow will work at the State Impact Center, focusing on climate, environmental justice, and clean energy issues. This role involves conducting legal research, drafting legal documents, and collaborating with state attorney general offices. The position is designed for self-motivated attorneys looking to deepen their expertise in environmental law while contributing to significant climate-related projects. The fellowship is temporary, lasting one year with the possibility of extension, and offers a hybrid work environment.

Responsibilities

• Conduct legal research on environmental and energy law issues and cases.
• Draft legal memoranda and other documents outlining relevant issues.
• Present legal research and analysis to colleagues and outside collaborators.
• Draft, review, and collaborate on State Impact Center publications, including newsletters, blog posts, and issue briefs.

Requirements

• J.D. from an accredited law school and admitted to practice in or willing to seek admission in New York.
• Experience in environmental, climate, energy, civil rights, or administrative law; public interest commitment preferred.
• 0-3 years for Legal Fellow I; 4-7 years for Legal Fellow II; 8+ years for Senior Fellow.
• Excellent research, analytic, and writing skills; experience editing work of others and incorporating feedback.
• Ability to engage with new legal topics and analyze relevant resources.
