About the position

The Office of Aerospace Medicine is seeking a qualified individual to examine, process, and adjudicate Applications for Airman Medical Certificates. This role involves reviewing medical applications and supporting documents to ensure compliance with FAA regulations, while also responding to inquiries from various stakeholders. The incumbent will work under the guidance of a Quality Assurance Specialist or Supervisor, applying legal and regulatory knowledge to make informed decisions regarding medical certifications.

Responsibilities

• Examine and process Applications for Airman Medical Certificates and supporting medico-legal documents.
• Adjudicate applications based on established FAA regulations and guidelines.
• Respond to inquiries from stakeholders, including FAA offices, aviation medical examiners, and applicants.
• Compose clear and concise written correspondence to stakeholders regarding application statuses and decisions.
• Utilize automated software systems to manage caseload and update medical systems database accordingly.
• Ensure adherence to quality standards and regulatory guidance in all tasks performed.

Requirements

• U.S. Citizenship is required.
• Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
• At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to FV-F (GS/FG 7-9) level, including medical experience reviewing documents for completeness and accuracy.
• Skill in examining documents related to medical diagnoses and treatments, including prescriptions.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in aviation medicine or related fields.
• Familiarity with FAA regulations and medical certification processes.
