As a Legal Office Assistant I, you will be responsible for a variety of tasks that are essential to the operations of the Sheriff's Office. Your duties will include entering and retrieving data, researching databases to ensure compliance with statutes, processing criminal warrants, and issuing county and state permits. You will also be the first point of contact for visitors and callers, managing appointments, providing information, and ensuring the security of the facility. In addition to administrative tasks, you will be involved in fingerprinting the public, arrestees, and inmates, as well as registering offenders. Your role will require you to compile and summarize statistical data, prepare reports, and manage financial transactions, including deposits and bill payments. You may also be tasked with offsite work related to the Public Administrator cases, which involves protecting assets and preparing for sales. Responsibilities

  • Enters and retrieves data; researches databases/files to resolve compliance with statutes.
  • Processes criminal warrants and issues county and state permits.
  • Screens visitors and calls, takes messages, and makes appointments.
  • Provides information regarding activities and functions; processes mail and orders office supplies.
  • Supervises and keeps the facility secure.
  • Fingerprints the public, arrestees, and inmates; registers sex, arson, and drug offenders.
  • Researches, compiles, and summarizes statistical data; prepares spreadsheets and reviews confidential information.
  • Deposits monies and pays bills; records expenditures and reconciles accounts.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert.
  • May work offsite to prepare inventory of Public Administrator cases and protect assets.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or possession of a GED certificate.
  • Two years of responsible clerical and staff support experience.
  • Typing at a net rate of 40 wpm.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license within 30 days of hire.
  • Completion of POST law enforcement clerk course and/or CLETS training required for certain positions within one year of hire.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in legal support assignments equivalent to the County's Legal Office Assistant I.
  • Completion of POST law enforcement clerk course and/or CLETS training.
