About the position

The Legal Program Manager at OpenAI will oversee and manage large-scale cross-functional legal initiatives related to litigation, discovery, investigations, intellectual property (IP), regulatory governance, and legal operations. This role is pivotal in addressing innovative legal challenges in AI and involves collaboration with various teams to build scalable legal solutions. The position is based in San Francisco and follows a hybrid work model.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Legal, Engineering, Security, and other business and compliance teams to lead and build legal programs, including Litigation, Investigations, IP, Regulatory/Governance, and Privacy.
• Coordinate workstreams for complex cross-functional initiatives with Legal team leaders.
• Support cross-functional process and operational improvements of various programs, providing insights into overall program performance across the organization.
• Focus on efficiency and scalability as the organization grows.

Requirements

• At least 5+ years of experience in legal program management.
• Deep familiarity with litigation, investigations, IP, regulatory/governance, privacy, and/or legal operations.
• Strong organizational and project management skills.
• Ability to take ownership of projects by setting and achieving milestones.
• Ability to synthesize input from cross-functional partners.
• Enthusiasm about AI technology and ability to navigate fast-paced technical environments.

Nice-to-haves

• SQL skills.
• Experience with Lean principles or PMP methodologies.
