About the position

Joanne Schlenk McAvey, PLLC, an Estate and Elder Law firm located in Deer Park, NY, is seeking an experienced Legal Secretary/Assistant to join our dedicated team. This part-time position offers an hourly wage of $22 to $24, depending on experience, and is expected to require approximately 20 hours of work per week. We are looking for a candidate who is a self-starter, highly organized, and detail-oriented, with excellent communication skills. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in providing administrative support to our legal team and will be responsible for a variety of tasks that are essential to the smooth operation of our firm. The Legal Secretary/Assistant will be expected to learn about Surrogate's Court forms and the Medicaid application process. Key responsibilities include communicating with prospective and current clients, preparing legal documents such as powers of attorney, health care proxies, living wills, and deeds of transfer. Additionally, the role involves drafting correspondence, assembling legal packets, scheduling appointments, and tracking outstanding documents to ensure timely follow-up. Familiarity with WordPerfect and Excel is beneficial for this position, as these tools will be used regularly to manage documents and client information.
