About the position

The Legal Secretary position at State Farm involves providing essential support to attorneys in a fast-paced litigation environment. Responsibilities

  • Applies specialized knowledge of legal procedures
  • Calendar management, processing mail, electronic filing
  • Scheduling litigation events, including depositions, mediations, and hearings
  • Propounding discovery, preparing deposition notices, including non-retained and retained expert witnesses, filing motions and pleadings

Requirements

  • 1-7 years of recent civil defense litigation secretarial experience preferably in insurance defense or personal injury
  • Knowledge of legal and medical terminology, local and state rules regarding pleadings and pre-trial matters, deadlines, and filing requirements
  • Calendaring and scheduling experience within a legal environment
  • Strong organizational skills, prioritizing urgent and non-urgent tasks, multitasking
  • E-filing experience
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, proofreading, attention to detail, formatting
  • Accurate typing skills
  • Technology/software experience required
  • Working knowledge of local court electronic filing systems
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe
  • Working knowledge of Case Management system
  • Working knowledge of Document Storage system

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of legal and medical terminology, local and state rules regarding pleadings and pre-trial matters, deadlines, and filing requirements (preferred not required)
  • Ability to adapt to a corporate law environment
