About the position

The Level 1 Help Desk Technician is responsible for providing technical support, computer repair, installation, and configuration for the Town of West Springfield. This role involves assisting end users with hardware and software issues, maintaining the IT Helpdesk, and ensuring the functionality of the Town's computer systems and peripheral hardware. The technician will also provide on-the-job training for personnel and manage inventory and documentation related to IT operations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support for computer systems and peripheral hardware.
  • Perform computer repair, installation, and configuration tasks.
  • Assist end users with hardware, software, and operating system issues.
  • Organize and manage open help desk tickets and escalate issues as necessary.
  • Maintain an inventory of hardware, software, and other IT equipment.
  • Document department procedures and policies related to IT support.
  • Establish new user accounts and set up equipment for new users.
  • Provide on-the-job training for Town employees on IT systems.
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on computers and network equipment.
  • Collaborate with other IT staff to ensure compatibility of workstations with existing applications.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in computer science or a related field.
  • 1-3 years of related work experience in IT support or help desk roles.
  • Valid Class D Motor Vehicle Driver's License.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of G Suite and MS Office software.
  • Familiarity with MS Windows 7 & 10, Apple iOS, Chrome, and Android devices.
  • Understanding of network LAN and WAN infrastructure concepts.
