About the position

The Level 1 Medication Aide (L1MA) at Cedarhurst is responsible for providing direct resident care and medication distribution in a senior living environment. This role emphasizes a team approach to enhance the physical, personal, and emotional well-being of residents, aiming to help them achieve maximum self-care and independence. The L1MA works closely with the Director of Nursing and other interdisciplinary team members to ensure high-quality care and compliance with state regulations.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct resident care services including medicine distribution to residents.
• Follow individualized plan of care for all residents.
• Perform resident evaluations as required by state standards and facility policy under the direction of the Director of Nursing.
• Observe residents for changes in condition and report any changes immediately to supervisor and/or the Executive Director.
• Provide timely interventions to changes in condition and share this with care staff and family as instructed.
• Assist in completing and maintaining current individualized care plans for each resident.
• Provide interim documentation as required to resident files.
• Attend all scheduled interdisciplinary resident care meetings.
• Check and record vital signs, weights, and blood sugars as assigned.
• Assist residents with activities of daily living as needed, including bathing, oral care, toileting, and dressing.
• Assist residents with transfers and ambulation as directed, using proper body mechanics.
• Participate in oversight and management of medication delivery system, including timely order entry and daily MAR documentation.
• Notify pharmacy and supervisor of issues and seek to resolve them in a timely manner.
• Provide glucose monitoring and administration of insulin as applicable.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Current state certification for Level 1 Medication Aide (L1MA) and insulin certification if applicable.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) and/or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification is required.
• At least one year of related work experience, preferably in senior care.
• General knowledge of laws and restrictions regarding Assisted Living care.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in senior care is preferred.
• Knowledgeable in computer applications such as Microsoft Office and electronic health records (EHR) systems.
