About the position

Baylor Scott & White Health is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician Level I for a position in Bryan, Texas. The Sterile Processing Technician 1 plays a crucial role in the healthcare system by performing a variety of duties associated with the cleaning, sterilization, processing, organizing, and distribution of patient equipment, instruments, supplies, and products used in the care and treatment of patients. This position is essential for ensuring that all medical instruments and equipment are properly sterilized and ready for use in patient care, thereby contributing to the overall safety and effectiveness of medical procedures. The technician will be responsible for preparing rooms and organizing instruments, equipment, treatment trays, and supplies for specified departments. This includes cleaning and decontaminating instruments, containers, and patient equipment using detergents and disinfectant solutions in accordance with regulatory and hospital policies and procedures. The technician will operate semi-automatic and automatic sterilization equipment and washers, ensuring that all equipment is functioning correctly and safely. In addition to cleaning and sterilizing equipment, the Sterile Processing Technician will receive, stock, rotate, check, and pull expired goods; fill and distribute internal orders; and pick up reusable trays, equipment items, and instruments. Maintaining and controlling inventory is a key responsibility, as is ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, manufacturer, and infection control practices. The role requires strong relational and communication skills to effectively interact with patients and staff, as well as a basic knowledge of medical terminology and sterilization methods.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares rooms and organizes instruments, equipment, treatment trays, and supplies for specified departments.
  • Cleans and decontaminates instruments, containers, and patient equipment using detergents and disinfectant solutions under regulatory and hospital policies and procedures.
  • Operates semi-automatic and automatic sterilization equipment and washers.
  • Receives, stocks, rotates, checks, and pulls expired goods; fills and distributes internal orders; and picks up reusable trays, equipment items, and instruments.
  • Maintains and controls inventory.
  • Maintains applicable records and files.
  • Ensures compliance with safety, environmental, manufacturer, and infection control practices.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Less than 1 year of experience in a related field.
  • Knowledge of equipment and instrument sterilization methods and procedures preferred.
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
  • Ability to comply with safety, environmental, manufacturer, and infection control practices.
  • Relational and communication skills to interact with patients and staff.
