About the position

The Level II Legal Assistant position is a full-time role based in Atlanta, GA, where the successful candidate will be responsible for a variety of tasks related to settlement cases. This position requires a proactive approach to managing client communications and ensuring that all necessary documentation is processed efficiently. The Legal Assistant will be expected to call settlement clients weekly to provide updates on their cases, ensuring that clients are informed and engaged throughout the settlement process. Additionally, the role involves following up on outstanding settlement checks from insurance companies and opposing counsel, as well as ensuring that all necessary release and lien affidavit documents are obtained in a timely manner. The Legal Assistant will also be responsible for confirming and reviewing Settlement Distribution (SOD) documents for each settled case, which includes verifying the accuracy of the settlement breakdown in consultation with department heads. Conducting balance checks prior to sending out any reductions is a critical part of this role, as is the timely dispatch of reductions to the relevant entities. The position requires conducting GSCCCA lien searches for each settled case and performing research on advance settlement loans, bankruptcies, and child support liens as necessary. Finalizing the SOD set pack with all itemized documents needed for client disbursement is another key responsibility. The Legal Assistant must adhere to the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the Settlement Procedure consistently. Scheduling disbursement appointments with clients and assisting attorneys and management with various duties will also be part of the daily tasks. This role is essential in ensuring that the legal team operates smoothly and that clients receive their settlements without unnecessary delays.

Responsibilities

  • Call settlement clients weekly and provide an accurate update
  • Follow up on any outstanding settlement checks from the insurance company and/or opposing counsel's office
  • Follow up on any outstanding release and/or lien affidavit documents from the insurance company and/or opposing counsel's office
  • Confirm and review Settlement Distribution (SOD) documents for each settled case
  • Confirm and review a Settlement Distribution (SOD) document for each case with any offers on the case
  • Consult with the head of each department regarding the settlement breakdown
  • Conduct balance checks prior to sending out any reductions
  • Send out reductions effectively and timely to each entity indicated on the SOD
  • Follow up on reductions timely
  • Conduct a GSCCCA lien search for each settled case
  • Conduct research for any advance settlement loans, bankruptcy and/or child support lien(s) for each settled case
  • Finalize the SOD set pack with the itemized documents needed for the client to be disbursed
  • Follow the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the Settlement Procedure every time
  • Schedule a disbursement appointment with the client
  • Assist with any duties that directly come from the attorneys and/or management.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 1 year of experience as a paralegal or legal assistant
  • 1 year of experience with Microsoft Office
