About the position

The Level II NDT Field Technician will be responsible for performing calibrations, conducting nondestructive tests (NDT), and evaluating results to determine acceptance or rejection based on established written instructions. This role requires a thorough understanding of the methods of NDT being utilized, as well as the ability to set up and calibrate testing equipment. The technician will interpret and evaluate results in accordance with applicable codes, standards, and specifications, ensuring that all procedures are followed meticulously. In addition to technical responsibilities, the Level II Technician will also play a crucial role in on-the-job training and guidance for Assistants and Level I Technicians. This includes organizing and reporting the results of NDT, ensuring that all findings are documented accurately and communicated effectively. The technician will be expected to establish techniques for the proper examination of objects under inspection, maintaining strict adherence to safety regulations throughout the testing process. Daily interactions with clients will be a key aspect of this position, as the technician will need to discuss work priorities, project progress, and actively participate in client programs and safety initiatives. The role may also involve instructing and supervising others, performing specialized inspections, and engaging in incident investigations as necessary. Overall, the Level II NDT Field Technician will be integral to maintaining quality assurance and safety standards in the field.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and calibrate nondestructive testing equipment.
  • Conduct tests to ensure quality or detect discontinuities (defects) using NDT methods of inspection.
  • Establish techniques for proper examination of objects under inspection, ensuring strict adherence to safety regulations.
  • Apply testing criteria in accordance with applicable specifications or standards and evaluate results.
  • Interpret radiographs, cathode ray tube (CRT) or digital readouts, conductivity meters and visual indicators.
  • Organize and report test results.
  • Perform specialized inspections.
  • Instruct and supervise others as needed.
  • Interface daily with the client about work priorities and progress of projects.
  • Actively participate in client programs, planning and strategy sessions.
  • Work closely with clients to identify and remove obstacles.
  • Actively participate in client safety initiatives, incident investigations, etc.

Requirements

  • Qualified to set up and calibrate NDT equipment.
  • Thoroughly familiar with the scope and limitations of the NDT methods being used.
  • Ability to interpret and evaluate results according to applicable codes, standards, and specifications.
  • Experience in on-the-job training and guidance of Assistants and Level I Technicians.
