About the position

The Data Center Field Technician III is responsible for assisting with hardware installation, asset tagging, cabling, data center maintenance, documentation, and server installation processes. This role involves working on moderately difficult assignments that require judgment to resolve issues, with some instruction for new tasks and occasional checks on daily work.

Responsibilities

  • Install, move, and decommission hardware, including cabinets, shelves, power strips, rails, servers, and other devices.
  • Confirm and label devices, racks, and cables.
  • Use standard ticketing systems, ensuring clear, timely, and professional communication with customers.
  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), program policies, safety policies, and security protocols under the direction of the Site Operations Supervisor and/or Operations Manager.
  • Perform additional tasks as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED, plus 2-5 years of relevant experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Must respond to on-call requests within 1 hour when required.
  • Experience working with CAT5e, CAT6 copper cable, and multi-mode/single-mode fiber.
  • Knowledge of copper and fiber testers.
  • Ability to cable systems (power, copper, fiber) following SOP standards and ticket requirements.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and experience with computer hardware.
  • Understanding of networking infrastructures and components.
  • Familiarity with data center best practices (e.g., cable routing, fault tolerance, power usage).
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Experience with cable management and running fiber and copper cables.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical, HVAC, and bandwidth infrastructures.
  • Ability to operate material-handling equipment (e.g., server lifts, pallet jacks, forklifts - if certified).
  • Proficiency with MS Office, MS Outlook, web browsers, and the ability to learn new software.
  • Must provide own transportation to work locations.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certifications in data center technologies.
  • Hands-on experience with electrical, HVAC, and data center infrastructures.
  • Working knowledge of networking infrastructures, including Wi-Fi.
