About the position

As the leader of the health care team, the Level III Staff RN in the Cardiology Clinic provides professional nursing care, utilizing the nursing process in accordance with established standards of care, policies, and procedures. This role is pivotal in ensuring that patient care is delivered effectively and efficiently, aligning with the Medical Center's Vision, Mission, and Strategic Plan. The RN is expected to remain flexible to changing systems and demonstrate quality and effectiveness in work habits and clinical practice. Treating co-workers, patients, families, and all members of the health care team with dignity and respect is paramount. The Registered Nurse demonstrates proficiency through various skills, competencies, and behaviors. Leadership is a key component, where the RN upholds Kaiser Permanente's Policies and Procedures, serves as a leader of the health care team, delegates tasks appropriately, and demonstrates accountability. The RN must understand their own and team members' scope of practice and escalate issues as necessary. They are expected to champion new ideas, lead and direct others through change, and utilize effective communication strategies to achieve intended outcomes. Mentoring, orienting, and coaching others in unit-specific operations and patient care activities are also essential responsibilities. In terms of the nursing process, the RN develops and contributes to individualized care plans that reflect assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of outcomes. This includes ensuring that care plans are multidisciplinary, culturally appropriate, and timely. The RN monitors patient progress, revises care plans based on ongoing evaluations, and ensures that discharge plans are effectively communicated and understood by patients and their families. Documentation is another critical aspect, requiring accurate, legible, and timely charting that reflects the nursing process and interventions. The RN is also responsible for discussing patient findings and progress with physicians and other healthcare team members, making comprehensive nursing decisions based on data interpretation, and participating in departmental performance improvement activities. Workplace safety is emphasized, with adherence to safety principles and practices, and the RN is expected to maintain a safe environment for themselves and others. Providing an optimal patient care experience is crucial, which includes actively listening to patients and their families, ensuring confidentiality, and treating all individuals with courtesy and respect. The RN is viewed as an effective team member, demonstrating flexibility, cooperation, and accountability, while also participating in professional development and educational planning for the unit.

Responsibilities

  • Provide professional nursing care utilizing the nursing process in accordance with established standards of care, policies, and procedures.

  • Develop and contribute to individualized plans of care that reflect assessment, planning, implementing, and evaluating outcomes.
  • Monitor patient progress based on care plans and revise as necessary based on patient condition.
  • Ensure effective development and completion of discharge plans, including patient/family education.
  • Document nursing interventions and evaluations accurately and timely.
  • Discuss patient findings and progress with physicians and other healthcare team members.
  • Participate in departmental performance improvement activities.
  • Maintain a safe environment for self and others by adhering to workplace safety principles.
  • Provide an optimal patient care experience by actively listening to the needs of patients and family members.

Requirements

  • 1-year recent full-time equivalent experience in the ED, Critical Care, PACU, Step Down, DOU, Ambulatory Cardiology or as an RN performing treadmills.
  • Valid Registered Nurse License in California.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification.
  • Basic Life Support certification.
  • Knowledge of various types of implantable cardiac devices and ability to perform 12-lead EKG interpretation.
  • Knowledge of procedural sedation agents and reversal agents.
  • Completion of a basic arrhythmia course.
