About the position

The Claims Adjuster position at Erie Insurance involves exercising independent discretion and judgment in handling complex liability claims, including coverage issues and severe injury claims. The successful candidate will work remotely within the Columbus Branch territory, conducting investigations, evaluating claims, and negotiating with involved parties. This role also includes training and mentoring responsibilities, as well as providing support for property claims during peak periods.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct investigations and evaluate coverage and liability.
  • Handle claims involving complex liability, damages, or coverages.
  • Negotiate with all parties or their representatives within designated authority.
  • Document the file and submit reports.
  • Identify subrogation opportunities and initiate appropriate action.
  • Complete required training.
  • Provide support for property claims during periods of heavy volume.
  • Train and mentor new employees.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; Associates or bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Five years of casualty claims adjusting experience or equivalent experience in the medical or legal field required.
  • Broad knowledge and expertise in liability coverages, laws, and injuries required.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Completion of Associate in Claims (AIC) program preferred.
