About the position

Towson University is seeking an innovative individual to join the Albert S. Cook Library as a Digital Services Librarian through the Early Career Librarian Fellows program. This fellowship is designed for early-career librarians from underrepresented groups who have recently completed or are about to complete their master's degree in library science (MLS or MLIS). The position is permanent, with a two-year fellowship period dedicated to researching and developing a new program or initiative that will be launched at the conclusion of the fellowship. The library is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and candidates will be expected to demonstrate their involvement in advancing these goals. The fellowship offers opportunities for professional growth, mentorship, and the chance to rotate across departments if desired. The Digital Services Librarian will investigate technologies that enhance the research lifecycle for faculty, students, and staff, and will work on a capstone project that aligns with their professional interests and the library's needs. This role also includes participation in library and university committees, as well as professional organizations, with a focus on career planning and development.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate technologies that improve the research lifecycle for Towson University faculty, students, and staff.
  • Research and develop a new program or initiative to be launched at the conclusion of the two-year fellowship.
  • Work on a capstone project suited to professional interests and library needs in the final year of the program.
  • Serve on library and university committees and participate in professional organizations.
  • Engage in formal and informal mentorship and professional development activities.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in library science (MLS or MLIS) must be completed by start date or within one year of hire.
  • Commitment to developing a career in academic librarianship.
  • Knowledge of issues and developments in academic libraries.
  • Demonstrated interest or experience in diversity and inclusion initiatives.
  • Strong commitment to supporting the academic and research needs of students, faculty, and staff.
  • Basic familiarity with current practices and technology in library instruction, technical services, and special collections.
  • Demonstrated interest in scholarship and commitment to professional growth.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills; ability to work in a team environment.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated initiative and ability to work independently and collaboratively on various projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, time management, and project management skills.
  • Ability to work flexibly and creatively in a changing and fast-paced environment with a diverse population.
