About the position

Towson University is seeking an innovative individual to join the Albert S. Cook Library as the Archivist for Digital Collections and Research through the Early Career Librarian Fellows program. This fellowship is designed for early-career librarians from underrepresented groups who have either completed their Master’s in Library Science (MLS or MLIS) within the last 18 months or will complete their degree within 12 months of hire. The position is permanent, and after the two-year fellowship, the librarian will continue in their role. The library is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and candidates will be expected to demonstrate their involvement in advancing these goals. The first two years will focus on researching and developing a new program or initiative, culminating in a plan to launch the program at the end of the fellowship. The role offers opportunities for rapid professional growth and encourages new perspectives and fresh ideas. The Archivist for Digital Collections and Research will report to the Assistant University Librarian for Special Collections and University Archives (SCUA) and will be responsible for ensuring digital access to SCUA's expanding digital cultural heritage collections. The ideal candidate will be technologically adept, self-directed, and a creative problem-solver, eager to experiment with tools and workflows to enhance the digital preservation program. This position will also involve integrating diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice into digital archives practices. The Fellow will investigate technologies for the long-term preservation of collections and will work on a capstone project in their final year, which may involve research or creative work suitable for presentation at a conference or publication. The Fellow will participate in library and university committees and professional organizations, benefiting from mentorship and professional development opportunities.
