Early Literacy Librarians work with the Coordinator of Youth Services and other library staff to plan and implement a variety of literacy programs for youth and families including storytimes, skits, book talks, and other programs that encourage reading and use of the library by young people and their parents. They collaborate with the youth services staff at all branches of the Amarillo Public Library to develop meaningful partnerships with schools, community groups, social service agencies, daycares, and other institutions that work to create and support successful youth and families. Early Literacy Librarians also provide service to patrons seeking assistance with the youth, adult fiction, and media collections on the first floor of Downtown Library. They assist the Coordinator of Youth Services with maintenance of library collections and other tasks as assigned, and they may serve as the Downtown Library building supervisor when needed.
