About the position

The Librarian (Program Specialist I) position is a full-time, permanent role within the Department of Detention Facilities in Anne Arundel County, MD. The primary mission of this role is to support the rehabilitation program by providing informative resources in a secure environment for pretrial and convicted individuals. The position involves program management support, requiring knowledge of various program issues and the ability to coordinate with multiple stakeholders to enhance the educational and social development of the incarcerated population.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support for and liaise with citizens' committees, community groups, and advisory councils.
  • Develop and maintain a current listing of specific resource services available for individuals in the target population.
  • Establish and maintain mechanisms/data bases to track program activity; generate reports; process data, billings, and payment vouchers.
  • Monitor specific aspects of contracts and make recommendations on the acceptability of program services.
  • Determine eligibility for program services based on application reviews and verification of data.
  • Administer a juvenile victim/witness program by offering support and information to victims and witnesses.
  • Assess training and staff development requirements and design programs to address such needs.
  • Coordinate and direct volunteer program services for the inmate population at the Detention Center.
  • Draft and oversee distribution of program promotional materials and public service announcements.
  • Prepare workload surveys and recommend changes in work distribution and assignment of functions.
  • Recruit, screen, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate program volunteers and student interns.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university.
  • One or more years of experience in library service.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's Degree with major coursework in public administration, library or social science, or a related field.
  • Master's Degree in Library Science from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited program.
  • One or more years of library experience in correctional programming.
  • One or more years of supervisory experience.
  • Experience working within a correctional facility.
