About the position

The Youth Services Librarian at Heritage Library in Lakeville, MN, is responsible for developing and delivering a wide range of programming for youth from birth through school-age. This role emphasizes strong customer service skills and community engagement, focusing on building relationships with families, schools, and youth organizations. The librarian will also provide information services, assist with digital resources, and may manage specific library collections under the supervision of a Branch Manager.

Responsibilities

• Provide friendly and respectful customer service to library patrons.
• Assist customers in using information resources both in-person and online.
• Provide technology instruction, including the use of maker technologies like 3D printers.
• Discover customer reading interests and make recommendations for reading materials.
• Build relationships with community partners and participate in outreach events.
• Coordinate and deliver library programs tailored to the needs of a diverse community.
• Monitor and maintain library collection areas, making recommendations for resources.

Requirements

• Master's Degree in Library and Information Science
• 1 year of public library experience (preferred)
• Experience integrating community needs into library services and programs (preferred)
• Experience with youth development (preferred)
• Experience conducting community outreach (preferred)
• Experience working with diverse populations (preferred)
• Bilingual skills, especially in Spanish (preferred)
