About the position

The Reference and Outreach Librarian is part of the Information Services Section, providing in person and virtual reference to the public and employees of the State of California. This position creates engaging programming and works with people from all over the state to inform about State Library resources and encourage their use.

Responsibilities

• Provide in person and virtual reference services to the public and State employees.
• Create engaging programming to promote State Library resources.
• Work collaboratively with individuals across the state to enhance library resource usage.

Requirements

• An MSLIS/MLIS or equivalent degree.
• Customer service experience in public or private sectors, including reference service.
• Experience performing duties at the Librarian level.
• Experience with database evaluation, acquisition, deselection, and the electronic resources lifecycle.
• Knowledge of or experience with database instruction and use.
• Experience in project planning and management.
• Knowledge of or experience with evaluating library materials.
• Familiarity with reference interviewing techniques and/or standard search strategies.
• Working knowledge of integrated library systems, ideally Ex Libris' Alma.
• Strong customer service attitude.
• Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
