About the position

The Librarian at CT State Housatonic Community College is responsible for providing a wide range of library services to students, faculty, and the community. This full-time, tenure-track position involves performing essential duties in public and reference services, technical services, information technology, instruction, and circulation management. The Librarian will also supervise staff and participate in various college events and committees, contributing to the college's mission of promoting student success and equity in education.

Responsibilities

  • Provide public and reference services to students and faculty.
  • Manage technical services including cataloging and inter-library loans.
  • Offer information technology support and services.
  • Conduct library instruction and teach information literacy skills.
  • Oversee circulation management and collection development.
  • Supervise library staff and provide training as needed.
  • Participate in college events such as convocations and commencement ceremonies.
  • Serve on committees and task forces as assigned.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Library Science.
  • One or more years of related experience in librarianship.
  • Up to two years of experience in leading or supervising others.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform the full range of professional librarianship.
  • Strong competencies in public services, reference, technical services, and collection development.
  • Information literacy skills and experience in teaching library resources.
  • Proven ability to work with diverse populations and excellent communication skills.
  • Strong information technology literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Nice-to-haves

  • Two years of experience in an academic library setting.
  • Library instruction experience.
  • Experience in information literacy instruction design and teaching.
