About the position

Under immediate supervision, the Library Aide PT is responsible for performing routine clerical work at the library, which includes the proper shelving and sorting of library materials. The working conditions are primarily inside an office environment, with occasional exposure to outside working conditions. This position is classified as 'unclassified', meaning it has no disciplinary appeal rights to the Municipal Civil Service Commission and is subject to at-will employment status, allowing for termination at any time for any reason. The work location will be one of the 28 library locations in San Antonio, and the work days and hours will vary, covering a Saturday to Friday workweek.

Responsibilities

  • Sorts and shelves library resources in either alphabetical or numerical order, occasionally lifting and carrying books or materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Conducts periodic checks on all shelved materials, ensuring items are in proper order.
  • Maintains shelved books to ensure accuracy and proper placement.
  • Searches for library materials which have been reserved or claimed to be returned by library users.
  • Arranges and straightens library furniture.
  • Packs, unpacks, sorts, and transports library materials.
  • Performs general clerical duties.
  • Prepares new books and materials for public use.
  • Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.

Requirements

  • Completion of tenth grade education as recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency.
