About the position

The Library & Archives Paraprofessional 2 position at Olympic College is a part-time role focused on performing journey-level technical library tasks at the Poulsbo Campus. The position involves providing customer service, assisting patrons with research inquiries, managing library materials, and supporting the overall operations of the library under general supervision. This role may also include supervising lower-level staff and contributing to the development of policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Provides courteous, effective, and timely customer service.
  • Responds to and resolves routine issues and inquiries.
  • Provides research services and resolves research inquiries; consults finding aids and interprets them for researchers.
  • Monitors researchers to assure adherence to collections use and security procedures.
  • Guides researchers to other sources for records, publications, and information.
  • Guides patrons in finding and using resources.
  • Troubleshoots equipment such as media equipment, scanners, copiers, and printers.
  • Prepares regular statistical or administrative reports.
  • Performs prepping, scanning, and imaging procedures.
  • Performs circulation functions including managing holds; interprets policies.
  • Creates and updates patron and item records, with required approval.
  • Searches, orders, receives, and resolves issues related to shipping and receiving library materials.
  • Makes minor revisions to catalog records such as changing locations, adding copies, and updating holdings.
  • Identifies and selects appropriate catalog record, downloads with routine, basic, or no modifications.
  • Discards and withdraws items identified as not needed for collection.
  • Processes incoming material by performing arrangement and description projects.
  • Evaluates materials for repair and performs basic repair/mending for collections.
  • Participates in the delivery of programs for institutional, school, or correctional center residents; assists in providing outreach services including training and orientations.
  • Processes resource sharing requests such as interlibrary lending, borrowing, or document delivery, including verifying bibliographic citations.
  • Selects and arranges materials for displays.
  • Conducts tours.
  • Helps develop policies and procedures by providing input for area of responsibility.
  • May supervise, lead, train, and direct the work of lower-level staff, student employees, volunteers, or interns.

Requirements

  • High school graduation or equivalent.
  • One year of experience in the functional operations of a library or archives.
  • Equivalent education or experience will substitute.
