About the position

The Library Assistant II, Acquisitions - Receiving position at Kent Library is responsible for the ordering, receiving, initial processing, and payment of all collections materials. This role is crucial for maintaining the library's inventory and ensuring that all materials are accurately processed and accounted for. The position requires effective communication with vendors and internal stakeholders, as well as strong organizational skills to manage the various tasks associated with acquisitions.

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining files for all ordered materials and received items
  • Locating, verifying, and editing bibliographic and item records
  • Creating and updating order records in the library management system
  • Communicating with vendors regarding orders delayed, damaged, or non-received items
  • Searching multiple vendor databases for hard-to-find items and placing orders
  • Adhering to university standards regarding purchasing-card use
  • Communicating effectively with internal and external constituents
  • Problem-solving for colleagues, academic department faculty, and library users
  • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of the library management system and business software
  • Serving as designee for data entry and reconciliation for other p-card holders

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum of 1 year library experience or demonstrated customer service experience
  • Knowledge of cataloging standards or ability to learn and follow rules for describing library materials
  • Evidence of research experience
  • Able to learn and build software and technical skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Word and Excel
  • Evidence of attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work successfully independently and as a member of a team
  • Ability to lift 30 pounds daily with or without accommodations
