About the position

The Library Assistant position at Selby Library is an entry-level role focused on providing exceptional customer service to library patrons. The assistant will be the primary point of contact for customers, addressing routine inquiries and assisting with various library services. This part-time position offers opportunities for growth and development within the library system, emphasizing a commitment to promoting from within.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for library customers, providing exceptional service.
  • Resolve routine questions or problems and refer complex issues to appropriate staff.
  • Assist library users in person, by phone, or electronically.
  • Perform material checkout/check-in, retrieve and process reserves, and manage billing for missing items.
  • Sort and shelve materials, maintaining an orderly arrangement.
  • Aid in operating and troubleshooting automated materials check-in systems.
  • Perform routine equipment cleaning and maintenance.
  • Provide directional and service-related information to users.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent education.
  • One or more years of experience in a clerical or customer service environment, preferably in a library setting.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual in Spanish.
