About the position

The Library Assistant at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary plays a crucial role in supporting the library's public services and resources. This part-time position is designed for individuals who are committed to the mission of the Seminary and who can demonstrate a strong Christian commitment. The Library Assistant will be responsible for assisting guests with their inquiries, teaching them how to effectively use the library, and managing interlibrary loan operations. This includes locating and sending materials to other libraries, as well as opening and closing the library on a daily basis. The role requires a proactive approach to customer service, ensuring that all interactions with library patrons are positive and informative. In addition to assisting guests at the public service desk, the Library Assistant will shelve and check books in and out, clarify library policies, and maintain materials in the Serials department. The position also involves assisting guests in locating periodicals and participating in special projects as requested by the Public Services Librarian. Regular attendance and punctuality are essential, as is the ability to perform other related duties as assigned. The Library Assistant will work closely with the Public Services Librarian to ensure that the library operates smoothly and efficiently, contributing to a welcoming environment for all users.

Responsibilities

  • Assist guests at the public service desk.
  • Open and close the library.
  • Manage daily Interlibrary Loan operations; package and receive materials through the mail.
  • Assist students with the use of library resources.
  • Shelve and check books in and out.
  • Clarify library policies.
  • Maintain materials in the Serials department; assist guests with locating periodicals.
  • Assist with special projects as needed or requested by the Public Services Librarian.
  • Ensure regular job attendance and timeliness.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
