About The Position

The Las Vegas-Clark County Library District is seeking a part-time Library Assistant for the Meadows Library. This role involves providing technical public service support, managing automated circulation system functions, and assisting patrons with various inquiries. The position is designed to enhance the library experience for the community while ensuring efficient operations within the library.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalency required.
• Six months of related work experience required.
• Typing skills required.
• Computer experience required.
• Completion of LVCCLD's Person-in-Charge (PIC) Training or completion within 12 months of assuming position.
• District provided AED/CPR certification must be completed within six months from date of employment.

Responsibilities

• Provides public service in the Meadows Library, including checking library materials in and out, maintaining patron accounts, and issuing patron cards.
• Checks in new materials and maintains related records.
• Performs telephone receptionist duties, assisting callers or directing them to the Library Associate.
• Directs patrons to the general location of library materials and equipment.
• Answers inquiries of a nonprofessional nature and refers patrons requiring professional assistance to the Library Associate.
• Maintains and files various records and reports appropriate to the Meadows Library.
• Assists patrons with questions regarding overdue notices.
• Performs routine shelf checks and claims returns.
• Counts money for cash register and balances cash drawer at the end of the assigned shift.
• Interacts extensively with patrons, district-wide staff, management, and outside agencies.
• Updates computer records as requested.
• Utilizes automated library systems and other library equipment.
• Sorts returned library materials and shelves books or places them in designated areas for retrieval.
• Processes and maintains reserved library materials.
• Operates general office equipment, including copy machines and telephones.
• Inspects returned materials for damage.
• Decorates the Outlying Branch for seasons, holidays, and events.
• Assists patrons in using the circulating and non-circulating periodicals collection and other materials.
• Oversees operations of the Outlying Branch in the absence of the Library Associate.
• Performs basic maintenance or repair on Outlying Branch equipment.
• Utilizes personal computers and associated software.
• Assists the Library Associate in collection maintenance.

Benefits

• Pay range of $21.70 to $29.09 per hour, with eligibility for annual merit and COLA increases.
• Part-time position (19 hours per week).
