About the position

The Library Communications Specialist I at Charlotte Mecklenburg Library plays a crucial role in marketing the library's collections, programs, and resources. This position is responsible for developing and managing digital content across all library social media, internet, and intranet platforms. The specialist will generate content, write, develop, and design library communications as needed, ensuring that the library's message is effectively conveyed to the community. The role involves promoting system-wide programs, managing promotional materials, and engaging customers through innovative programs and events. In addition to content creation, the specialist will assist with updates to system-wide communication tools and help execute the Marketing and Communications program of work, including tracking progress and reporting on goals. A key responsibility is to increase community awareness of the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library and its various programs and activities, which includes managing promotional materials and overseeing the organization’s collective social media presence. The specialist will also develop social media-only campaigns when external marketing is not advised or required, and maintain and update content on the library's external website. The position requires participation in local, state, and national professional organizations, and other job duties may be assigned as needed. This role is essential in fostering a connection between the library and the community, ensuring that the library's resources are accessible and well-promoted to all citizens in Mecklenburg County.

Responsibilities

  • Market Charlotte Mecklenburg Library collections, programs, and resources.
  • Develop and manage digital content for all Library social media, internet, and intranet platforms.

Requirements

  • Minimum of three years of related experience in marketing, communications, or a related field.
  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Public Relations, Communications, or a related field.
  • Strong writing and editing skills with versatility in styles and tailoring to specific audiences or channels.
  • Organizational and project management skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal, grammatical, and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Three to five years of related experience in marketing, communications, or a related field.
  • Highly organized and effective in a team setting.
  • Experience writing content for both print and digital media.
  • Knowledge of marketing and data analytics.
