About the position

The Library Director is responsible for the administration and supervision of the library, ensuring the provision of library services, program and collection development, and building maintenance. This role involves planning, organizing, and managing all aspects of library operations to meet the needs of the community effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, organizes, and manages all aspects of library services, operations, and activities.
  • Establishes department and individual goals and performance measures against recognized standards of library services.
  • Studies and makes plans to develop library services to meet community needs.
  • Advises and consults with the Library Board and community groups regarding library services.
  • Supervises and develops procedures, policies, and public information.
  • Provides orientation and instruction to staff and patrons regarding library policies and services.
  • Enforces library policies established by the Board of Library Trustees.
  • Compiles and disseminates library statistics and financials for reporting purposes.
  • Maintains Library Certification and eligibility for state aid.
  • Recruits, selects, and recommends hiring new personnel.
  • Attends workshops and training programs to maintain knowledge of library services.
  • Coordinates continued training and development of staff members.
  • Prepares, presents, and administers the Library's annual operating budget.
  • Prepares grant applications and seeks funding for library programs.
  • Directs public relations to promote the library in the community.
  • Supervises the maintenance and repair of the library's physical plant and grounds.
  • Serves as liaison to various town and community organizations.
  • Manages meeting room reservations and facility rental requests.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Library and Information Science.
  • 3-5 years of library administration experience or equivalent.
  • Proven experience in library management, including budgeting and staff supervision.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Experience with integrated library systems.
