About the position

The Lab Monitor at Springfield Technical Community College (STCC) plays a crucial role in supporting library patrons within the reference computer lab. This part-time position is designed for individuals who are eager to assist students in navigating various computer-related tasks and ensuring a smooth operation of the lab environment. The Lab Monitor will be responsible for providing hands-on assistance to students, helping them with basic computer skills, addressing printing issues, and guiding them through various platform logins. The role requires a proactive approach to maintaining a welcoming and organized lab space, ensuring that all resources are readily available and in good condition. In addition to direct patron support, the Lab Monitor will also be tasked with monitoring the lab environment to ensure it remains conducive to learning and productivity. This includes maintaining an up-to-date inventory of lab resources, such as paper and other office supplies, and providing basic IT support to students outside of the lab. Responsibilities will also involve troubleshooting computer issues, installing necessary software, and assisting students with registration for online services and course platforms. The Lab Monitor will work closely with the reference staff to ensure that all user guides and documentation are current and accurate, and will report any technical issues or equipment malfunctions promptly. This position is ideal for individuals who possess strong technical skills, particularly in Microsoft applications and Blackboard, and who have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. The Lab Monitor must be able to work independently while also being a collaborative team member, demonstrating a willingness to provide exceptional customer service to all library patrons. The role is structured around a part-time schedule, specifically Monday through Thursday from 8 AM to 1 PM, making it suitable for students or individuals seeking flexible work hours.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor the lab environment
  • Provide support for patrons who use the print management system
