About the position

The Library Media Clerk assists the school media specialist in establishing and operating an effective media program that supports the organizational goals of the school. This role involves managing circulation desk operations, maintaining the media collection, assisting patrons, and performing clerical tasks, all while ensuring a neat and attractive atmosphere in the media center.

Responsibilities

  • Staff the circulation desk and manage circulation desk operations including maintaining patron records and circulating books and equipment.
  • Shelve books, collect lost book fines, print and distribute overdue notices, assist in scheduling class visits, and answer the telephone.
  • Maintain the media collection by processing new books, weeding damaged or outdated materials, and inspecting and repairing books.
  • Assist patrons, including students, parents, faculty, and staff, with locating materials, providing book recommendations, and accessing online resources.
  • Supervise student use of the media center and technology.
  • Perform clerical tasks such as distributing reports, typing memos, making copies, and preparing reports.
  • Assist with media program activities like inventory, book fairs, reading initiatives, and author visits.
  • Maintain an orderly and attractive atmosphere in the media center.
  • Assume responsibility for the operation of the media center in the absence of the media specialist.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Associates degree preferred.
  • Minimum one (1) year training in library procedures and/or two (2) years of clerical experience preferred.
  • Hold an associate's degree or higher in any subject from a GaPSC-accepted accredited institution, or have completed two (2) years of college coursework (sixty [60] semester hours) above the remedial level with a grade of 'C' or better, or have passed the GACE Paraprofessional Assessment and hold a minimum of a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
