About the position

The Library Media Specialist is responsible for maintaining an efficient and effective campus media center that supports the needs of students, teachers, and the instructional program. This role involves assisting students and staff in locating and interpreting information, promoting reading and learning, and integrating technology into the curriculum. The specialist will also manage library resources, oversee technology infrastructure, and provide leadership in the innovative use of new technology.

Responsibilities

  • Assist students, staff, parents, and community in identifying, locating, and interpreting information from various sources.
  • Provide a variety of reading materials and promotional activities that support the curriculum and foster life-long reading and learning habits.
  • Collaborate in interdisciplinary teaching units where resources and activities are integral to the unit.
  • Assist students and staff in producing curriculum-related multimedia presentations.
  • Provide assistance and instruction to staff in utilizing library media resources, including technology.
  • Promote, model, and provide leadership in the selection, coordination, evaluation, and use of technology in the curriculum and instruction.
  • Maintain the school's home page site and develop Internet research resources for teachers and students.
  • Provide a friendly, safe, secure, and attractive environment in the library media center.
  • Design and implement a flexible schedule to meet the needs of students and staff.
  • Manage the evaluation, selection, acquisition, and processing of print and non-print curriculum-related resources and equipment.
  • Administer library media center budgets according to priorities of the instructional program.
  • Oversee computers, software, and other technology resources of the library.
  • Encourage and lead the innovative use of new technology by providing a multimedia collection and offering staff development.
  • Supervise and evaluate library instructional aides and parent/student volunteers.
  • Establish a system of record keeping and prepare reports.
  • Provide staff development that integrates media, technology, and activities to enhance the curriculum.

Requirements

  • Completed three years as a successful classroom teacher (media oriented).
  • Master's degree in a relevant field.
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate.
  • Valid School Librarian certificate or other appropriate Texas certificate.
  • Proven leadership skills in working with people, curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in budget planning and management.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks.
