About the position

The primary purpose of the Library Media Specialist (LMS) is to support instruction and act as an instructional support leader at the campus level. The LMS provides services and resources that allow students to develop skills in locating, evaluating, synthesizing, and using information to solve problems. The LMS serves as a teacher, materials expert, and curriculum adviser to ensure that the learning commons is involved in instructional programs of the school.

Responsibilities

  • Effectively and frequently collaborate with faculty to improve student achievement
  • Work with staff on the design of classroom lessons
  • Work with teachers to meaningfully align 21st century skill instruction with content delivery
  • Work effectively and collaboratively with students, parents, and staff
  • Advance student program through outstanding communication skills (oral and written)
  • Plan appropriate research projects for each grade level, in cooperation with teachers
  • Advocate for library programs that promote literacy
  • Provide leadership in curriculum development in conjunction with administration and faculty
  • Incorporate district goals, plans, and processes
  • Assist campus staff in technology integration and development
  • Implement and organize campus, district, and statewide projects
  • Problem solve for technological issues

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate from the State Board of Educator Certification for Library Media Specialist, Learning Resources, or School Librarian
  • Three years of successful classroom teaching experience
  • Successful experience in library management and resource technology preferred
  • Experience in media, book and periodical acquisition, inventory, and maintenance preferred

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Library Science from an accredited college or university preferred
  • Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of library and information science
  • Organizational skills for long-range growth planning, budgeting, and maintenance
  • Ability to instruct and manage student behavior
