About the position

The Library Technical Assistant (Acquisitions Ordering) at Washington University in St. Louis plays a crucial role in supporting the research needs of users by managing the ordering process for library materials. This position involves placing orders with vendors, maintaining accurate records in the integrated library system, and ensuring timely receipt of materials. The assistant will also engage in communication with library staff and participate in various maintenance projects related to library records.

Responsibilities

  • Place firm orders with foreign and domestic vendors for requested items in various formats.
  • Download bibliographic records from OCLC as needed; create/edit order records in integrated library system; verify fund codes.
  • Follow up with vendors to claim unfilled orders and resolve issues with orders and invoices.
  • Export and load vendor-supplied records for shelf-ready books into Sierra; report load problems.
  • Process invoices and submit pro card expense reports to Library Business Services Office for payment in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Communicate with subject librarians and other library staff regarding order status.
  • Participate in records maintenance projects (including order records, item records, vendor records, payment records).
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including documentation and maintenance of departmental statistics and procedures, and participation in library-wide and staff development activities.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent high school certification or combination of education and/or experience.
  • Relevant experience of 2 years in a similar role.

Nice-to-haves

  • Applied knowledge of RDA, AACR2(rev), LCSH, LC classification, MARC21.
  • Working knowledge of two or more Western European languages.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Experience in Library Acquisitions Work.
