About the position

The Library Technology Systems Coordinator plays a crucial role in supporting Virginia's Community Colleges by managing library automation systems and providing essential support services. This position involves acting as the system administrator for library systems, ensuring their reliable operation, and collaborating with library staff to enhance library services. The coordinator will also work closely with the Director of Library Services and engage with various stakeholders to improve library technology integration across the community college system.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the system administrator for library automation systems, including Ex Libris Alma and Primo.
  • Monitor system performance and integrity to ensure reliable operation of library services.
  • Manage data conversion processes for bibliographic and patron data.
  • Coordinate implementation of system upgrades and enhancements.
  • Provide technical support for library infrastructure, including servers and electronic resources.
  • Serve as the primary contact for library system vendors and troubleshoot issues related to library operations.
  • Develop and maintain documentation for library systems and provide training to end users.
  • Investigate and recommend enhancements to existing library systems.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Library Science (MLS) or equivalent from an ALA accredited program.
  • At least five years of experience in library system management.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks in a complex environment.
  • Knowledge of integrated library systems and library-related data standards.
  • Functional knowledge of UNIX operating system and PHP.
  • Experience managing remote authentication and ezProxy.

Nice-to-haves

  • Solid administrative experience with ExLibris library systems.
  • Familiarity with cataloging and resource management methods.
  • Experience in a community college library environment.
  • Significant experience with UNIX system administration.

Benefits
