About the position

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the Mental Health Clinic at the Department of Veterans Affairs Southern Arizona Veterans Administration Health Care System provides clinical and technical support to patients in the Agave and H-Pact Clinics. The role involves working independently under the guidance of the Clinic Nurse Manager, focusing on delivering quality health care and positive customer service while considering various patient factors such as emotional, cultural, and socio-economic aspects.

Responsibilities

  • Perform assigned duties to promote quality health care and positive customer service.
  • Assist providers with examinations or procedures as needed.
  • Monitor instant messaging and computerized clinic schedules for daily workflow.
  • Communicate with patients through face-to-face interactions, telephone calls, and secure messaging.
  • Complete modified nursing Chronic Disease Indicator data including pain, depression, and PTSD screenings.
  • Administer prescribed medications and perform treatments according to established policies and procedures.
  • Document changes in patients' conditions and report deviations to RN or MD/DO.
  • Recognize urgent and emergent patient care situations and initiate appropriate emergency interventions as directed.
  • Establish constructive relationships with patients and their families to promote positive communication and socialization skills.
  • Serve as a preceptor for less experienced LPNs/LVNs or NAs/HTs.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Full, active, current, and unrestricted licensure as a licensed practical or vocational nurse in a state or territory of the U.S.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English.
  • Graduation from an approved school of practical or vocational nursing.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment physical examination.
