About the position

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) position at the Department of Veterans Affairs offers a unique opportunity to provide essential healthcare services to veterans within a collaborative, interdisciplinary practice setting. The LPN will also provide supportive measures for dying patients and their families, ensuring culturally competent care in a diverse environment.

Responsibilities

• Implement health promotion and prevention interventions.
• Manage acute and chronic illness states.
• Assist veterans in achieving optimal levels of functioning through rehabilitation.
• Provide supportive measures for dying patients and their significant others.
• Communicate and interact appropriately with internal and external customers.
• Maintain confidentiality of patient/resident information.
• Work safely, including infection control and operation of equipment.
• Utilize nursing research and evidence-based practice in daily practice.
• Recognize urgent or emergent patient care situations and initiate appropriate emergency interventions as directed.
• Carry out assigned tasks under the supervision of an RN or Medical Officer.

Requirements

• U.S. Citizenship is required.
• Full, active, current, and unrestricted licensure as a licensed practical or vocational nurse in a state, territory, or commonwealth of the U.S.
• Graduation from an approved school of practical or vocational nursing.
• Proficiency in written and spoken English.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification where appropriate.

Nice-to-haves

• 2 years of experience in Primary Care (preferred for GS-6 level).
