About the position

The position involves providing emergency mental health evaluations, crisis intervention, and dispositional planning for patients in various clinical or community settings. The role is critical in ensuring timely and effective mental health care, collaborating with psychiatrists and other healthcare professionals to deliver comprehensive support to patients in crisis.

Responsibilities

  • Provides emergency mental health evaluations in secure, hospital, outpatient, and community settings.
  • Acts as a consultant to assist patients and clinical teams with behavioral health expertise under psychiatrist supervision.
  • Delivers crisis and acute mental health interventions in collaboration with families and significant others.
  • Prioritizes and triages patients requiring immediate psychiatric intervention.
  • Conducts substance use screenings and interventions using evidence-based practices like SBIRT.
  • Manages telecommunication and documentation relevant to psychiatric patient admissions, treatment, and discharge or transfer.
  • Consults with the Team Leader, Manager, and/or Psychiatrist on Call to implement appropriate treatment and dispositional plans.
  • Reviews evaluations with the psychiatrist to determine the most appropriate treatment and disposition.
  • Attends monthly scheduled staff meetings and participates in ad hoc committee membership.
  • Leads report at change of shift, collaborating with the Emergency Department Nursing team regarding patient updates.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in human services (MSW, MHC, MA/MS, MFT, Creative Art Therapist) or related medical field (MD, DO, PhD, PsyD) required.
  • LMSW, LCSW, LCAT, LMFT licensure required.
