About the position

Seattle University has an opportunity for a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) to join our community. This is an 11-month (August 1 to June 30), full-time position. The LMHC provides clinical services, consultation, educational workshops, and outreach programming designed to foster the psychological wellness of the University's student population. In addition to providing these general services, LMHCs may be assigned to provide specialized services, programming, and training related to crisis counseling or serving underrepresented populations such as BIPOC students, LGBTQIA+ students, international students, and/or undocumented students. Clinical services and other responsibilities are primarily provided in person, with an opportunity for limited (one day per week) remote work after an initial review period.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 20-22 direct clinical service hours per week, including intake appointments, individual therapy, group therapy, and urgent care.
  • Maintain notes and clinical case files in accordance with legal, ethical, and professional standards.
  • Assist with referrals for mental health services in the local community.
  • Develop and facilitate outreach programming and psychoeducational workshops.
  • Serve as a liaison between the department and an assigned school/college and/or department.
  • Provide consultation and training for faculty, administrators, residence life professionals, and other student services personnel regarding mental health issues in a college student population.
  • Consult with family, parents, and others about mental health resources available at the university.
  • On rare occasions, provide crisis counseling after-hours or on weekends in response to major emergencies.
  • Participate in university-wide and/or Student & Campus Life committees as assigned. Attend Student & Campus Life in services and events.
  • Assist department leadership in meeting strategic goals related to mental health. Collaborate with relevant departments as necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Fully licensed in Washington State to practice independently as a mental health counselor. A candidate with an active Washington State associate-level license may be considered on a contingent basis if they can become fully licensed before their employment start date.
  • Demonstrated skills in assessment, diagnosis, and intervention/crisis intervention. Experience conducting short-term individual and group therapy.
  • Ability to consult and collaborate with University personnel and off-campus mental health and psychiatric services.
  • Passion for and experience working with students and/or young adults and dedication to partnering with relevant campus advocates and partners.
  • Experience with outreach programming, workshop and program development, and the ability to interact with a diverse population.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Nice-to-haves
