About the position

Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson Inc. is seeking an experienced Licensed Land Surveyor - Survey/SUE Project Manager to lead and manage surveying projects. This role involves planning, organizing, and directing the work of surveyors and technicians to determine precise locations and measurements for various purposes, including construction and utility locations. The position emphasizes safe work practices and effective communication with clients and team members.

Responsibilities

  • Assumes supervisory responsibility and performs as staff advisor and consultant for surveying functions and personnel management.
  • Coordinates findings with engineering, right-of-way, and utility coordination personnel, clients, and others concerned with a project.
  • Determines scope of work, job objectives, and man-hour budgets on projects assigned to the surveying group in concurrence with other project managers and supervisors.
  • Maintains liaison with individuals and units within or outside the organization, acting independently on technical matters.
  • Researches previous survey evidence, maps, deeds, physical evidence, and other records to obtain data needed for surveys.
  • Makes independent decisions on surveying problems and methods, representing the organization in conferences and meetings to resolve important questions.
  • Plans and develops surveying projects concerned with unique or controversial problems affecting major projects.
  • Analyzes survey objectives and specifications to prepare survey proposals or directs others in proposal preparation.
  • Schedules, assigns, and directs projects concerning surveying within the firm.
  • Prepares or supervises preparation of all data, charts, plots, maps, records, and documents related to surveys.
  • Trains assistants and helpers and directs their work in performing surveys or drafting maps.
  • Develops criteria for survey methods and procedures.

Requirements

  • Licensed Land Surveyor certification.
  • Proven experience in surveying and project management.
  • Strong mathematical skills, including knowledge of geometry and trigonometry.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with subsurface utility engineering (SUE).
  • Familiarity with construction and mapmaking processes.
