About the position

The lead plumber maintains Medical Center facilities to enhance healthcare, medical education, and medical research missions by performing skilled maintenance, repair, installation, and fabrication tasks at the journeyman skill level for piping, fixtures, and equipment used in the distribution, drainage, and ventilation of water, water-carried waste, air, gas, and other liquids in complex building systems and components. The lead plumber is frequently assigned the more complex problems for correction and regularly performs administrative and supervisory tasks to assist the Supervisor. The position involves providing timely and proper response to assigned service calls and work orders to maintain a safe and efficient facility environment. Typical tasks include evaluating malfunctions in complex plumbing systems, developing solutions, and taking corrective action. Responsibilities also include repairing, replacing, or installing piping and related building plumbing fixtures, pumps, pipes, valves, filters, toilets, lavatories, showers, and backflow preventers, as well as performing caulking in relation to repairs or replacement of fixtures. The lead plumber will also inspect, test, install, maintain, and repair building fire safety sprinkler systems and components, and maintain building and campus water supply and sewer systems, including fire hydrants. Additionally, the lead plumber will conduct facility inspections and preventative maintenance to minimize the adverse impact of facility deficiencies on building occupants. This includes completing assigned preventive maintenance tasks, providing accurate reports and recommendations from inspections, and making recommendations to improve the inspection/preventive maintenance program effectiveness. Customer support is also a key aspect of the role, promoting customer satisfaction by assisting building tenants in resolving facility-related plumbing problems. The lead plumber will execute assigned tasks consistent with all applicable safety procedures and provide timely disaster response support as needed.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Journeyman level plumbing skills and experience.
  • Ability to evaluate and troubleshoot complex plumbing systems.
  • Experience with fire safety sprinkler systems and building water supply systems.
  • Strong communication skills for customer support and collaboration with departments.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures and compliance.
