About the position

The Licensed Practical Mental Health Counselor (LPMHC) position at the Cincinnati VA Medical Center involves providing advocacy, training, and clinical consultation for high-risk veterans, particularly in suicide prevention. The role requires maintaining a list of high-risk patients, tracking their care, and educating providers and the community about suicide risk factors and treatment options. The LPMHC will work closely with various stakeholders to ensure effective program coordination and delivery of mental health services.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a list of high-risk patients and monitor their care to ensure enhanced-care services are delivered.
  • Track no-show appointments and follow up with patients to reschedule.
  • Consult and collaborate with providers of high-risk patients to facilitate best practices.
  • Provide training to clinical and non-clinical staff about suicide risk factors and treatment options.
  • Facilitate the implementation of patient record flags and required documentation related to suicide prevention.
  • Respond to consults from the Suicide Prevention Hotline and engage veterans in treatment.
  • Develop and maintain professional standards of service and coordinate suicide prevention services with other programs.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Hold a master's or doctoral degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling or a related field from an accredited program.
  • Must have a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice as a Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor.
  • At least one year of progressively complex LPMHC experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in providing clinical supervision to trainees or unlicensed LPMHCs.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of program coordination and ability to write policies and procedures.
