About the position

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) position at the Department of Veterans Affairs in Murfreesboro, TN, involves providing direct nursing care to adult and geriatric patients in a community living center. The LPN will work under the supervision of a Nurse Manager and alongside registered nurses, performing various patient care activities, documenting patient conditions, and assisting in the implementation of nursing care plans. This role is essential in ensuring the well-being and comfort of veterans receiving care.

Responsibilities

  • Observe, report, and document signs and symptoms of patients' general condition.
  • Attend patient care conferences and provide input into the Nursing Care Plan.
  • Provide direct nursing care to adult and geriatric patients according to nursing standards and Medical Center policy.
  • Assist with personal care activities such as bathing, oral care, and feeding.
  • Collect and label specimens for laboratory testing.
  • Administer medications and perform wound care as ordered.
  • Recognize and initiate emergency measures consistent with training.
  • Provide care for pre-operative and post-operative patients.
  • Document progress or changes in patients' behavior and physical condition.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Active, full, current, and unrestricted licensure as a Graduate Licensed Practical or Vocational Nurse in a state, territory, or commonwealth of the U.S.
  • Graduation from a school of practical or vocational nursing approved by the appropriate state agency or accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a hospital, outpatient clinic, nursing home, or other supervised medical facility.
  • Knowledge of human body structure and sterile techniques.
